The ShangRing is composed of two concentric medical grade plastic rings that act as a ligature. First, to start the procedure, the appropriate size the patient needs is determined by the use of a measuring strip. Next, the outer ring of the ShangRing is placed outside of the patient’s foreskin and locks against the inner ring. When the ShangRing is snapped together, the patient’s distal foreskin is excised. The ShangRing is then removed after one week. Next, the outer ring locking mechanism is opened using a special tool. Finally, a pair of scissors, specifically designed for this purpose, is then used to remove the inner ring of the ShangRing.
